A Day at Baby's R Us

My husband and I basically moved in to Baby's R Us on Saturday.  We compiled our list at home of everything we could possibly need for the baby.  We spent 3 1/2 hours with Kathy our amazing sales person picking out the specific kind of everything we need for baby.  I have to say that Kathy was awesome and so patient with us.  She's a mom and a grandma and has worked there for years so she was an amazing help to these first time parents who were clueless on how to fold up a playpen.

The one thing I haven't decided on yet is a type of bottle.  There were just so many so i'm calling on all you mother's out there to help me.  What bottles did you use and what worked and what didn't?  There's so many brands and styles so i'm seeking some advice!  Please leave a comment!

  1. I am a mother of 5 and I always used glass bottles. You always hear about how bad plastic bottles are and how the chemicals in the plastic leak into the liquid over time. So to be on the safe side, I'd use the glass bottles :-) Plus, they keep the milk warm for longer than a plastic bottle does! Good luck with your baby Jen! :)

Here is a website about the difference between glass and plastic bottles.http://naturalbaby.stores.yahoo.net/realglasbabb.htmletween plastic vs. glass bottles.

  3. I have used plastic bottles but BPA free ones with both of my girls (one is 2 and 1/2, and the other is 6 months and currently using a bottle). I found that both girls were different in which bottle they preferred.

My first daughter would only drink from the Playtex VentAire http://www.playtexbaby.com/Bottles/VentAire

This is a great bottle if your baby has colic or tends to take on a lot of air when nursing/feeding. It reduces the amount of air they take in and there are no bags to deal with. She preferred the smaller nipple on this bottle.

My other daughter who is six months right now would NOT drink from the Playtex bottle, but only drinks from the Avent bottles http://www.philips.ca/c/avent-baby-bottle-feeding/21815/cat/en/

This bottle has a larger nipple, and I found that they extra types of measurements on the side of this bottle help for easier measuring when preparing the bottle. It is also bag free. I received these bottles in a microwave steam sterilizer which has come in so handy. You can clean your bottles in the microwave and you don't have to put on the dishwasher just to clean the bottles, and you can sterilize them on the go too.

Your baby will tell you which bottle they will take, so it's all about learning on the go!

Hope this helps. There is so much information out there and it can feel overwhelming. I am praying for God's clarity and wisdom as you need to make some choices and decisions. This is such a great time of your life. Looking forward to pictures on your blog when the new baby arrives!

  4. What I found with my kids...it is a hit and miss sometimes. What one child liked, the other didn't. I hate to say it, but it may be the same for you. What I would do, is register for 2-3 of 4-5types and then start trying them out. When you find the right one for baby, return or exchange the ones that haven't been used.
My youngest LOVED the playtex ones, that had a bend in them (to hep reduce air, therefore gas for baby), silicone nipples. They were easy to clean, easy to find new nipples and they were easily bought at ANY store (this is a must for me) You do not want to go somewhere, and realize you didn't bring a bottle and then have to search for a place that sells THAT bottle. Go for something that is common!!!

Best of luck with all of this, sorry I know I wasn't much help. Probably just confused and frustrated you even more!!!

  5. Like Bekki said, every baby is different. Both of my older kids liked the Playtex VentAire, but I also know other kids who haven't liked them. Your best bet is to not buy a huge stock of bottles, but instead, get a couple different brands and try them out on baby and see which works best for you.

  6. I am a Mom of 3 and Grandma of 6. I used the Playtex bottles with the plastic liners and all my grandchildren used them too. Blessings on you, your husband and the baby. I had showers before my kids were born too. Back them it wasn't such a tradition to have them after. I think you should do what feels right to you. God bless.

  7. We used the Platex with drop in liners as well. We chose them because I was breast feeding, and pumping, and the breast milk storage bags fit perfectly into the Platex bottles.
